The first home that was 3D printed is available for sale in New York, and we’re honored to be a part of the project – because we had to see it to believe it, but mostly because it’s a huge step towards our mission to promote energy responsibility.
Located in Riverhead, New York, the home was constructed using 3D printing technology by a company called SQ4D, which specializes in 3D printing technology for construction.
The house is a single-story, three-bedroom, two-bathroom home with 1,400 square feet of living space. It was built using a giant 3D printer that uses a concrete material and took about two days to complete. The product might look like a 100 layer crepe cake and a wet sand castle, but the process is fascinating.
The house is designed to be highly energy-efficient, with insulation that is three times more effective than traditional insulation you see in most homes. It also features a geothermal heating and cooling system, which further reduces energy costs, and of course, solar panels installed by yours truly. While our team was only on-site for a short period of time (you know how fast our installation time is), we were struck by how innovative and amazing this new home construction process is.
3D printing significantly reduces construction time, as the printing process can be automated and takes less time than traditional construction methods. This can lead to faster completion times, lower labor costs, and ultimately a more affordable home price for these structures. This can help more families own a sturdy, reliable home in areas of our country where the average home price is exceedingly high.
Because 3D printed homes can be constructed using sustainable materials, the printing process can produce less waste than traditional construction methods. This can lead to a reduced environmental impact, and a more sustainable approach to construction.
The 3D printed house is currently listed for sale for $299,999, which is a steal if you know anything about housing prices on Long Island these days. This marks the first time that a 3D printed house has been up for sale, and it could potentially pave the way for more affordable and sustainable housing options in the future.
